Blackjack Rules

Blackjack rules are some of the most simple game rules to learn compared to other casino games. This, and the possibility to 'beat' the house in the long run have made blackjack the most popular casino game played in the world today. More than any other table game, people flock to the blackjack tables to try their hand at the tempting combination of luck and skill.

After choosing a table and placing a bet, a player will receive two cards. In most games, the player's cards will be face up, while the dealer will receive one card face up and one card face down. The object of the game is to have a closer hand value to 21 than the dealer, without going over 21. Going over, in blackjack, is called a bust. In blackjack, a player can lose two ways; by going over or by having a lower hand value than the dealer's.

According to blackjack rules, the dealer must abide by certain limitations while the player does not have to. This is the reason that players with a solid strategy can create an edge over the house. For example, if a dealer receives a hand value of 17, he can do no more. He doesn't have the option of hitting again. Whereas a player, if he wants to, can hit on a 17. A hit is when a player asks for another card to be added to his hand. Once a player is dealt two cards, he or she may ask for an unlimited amount of cards, until the hand value is bust. When you decide to stay with your current hand and take no more cards, this is called a 'stand'.

Card values in blackjack

To learn the blackjack rules, a player must know the card value of each card. It is impossible to know the rules or play the game if you don't know the card values. The simplest cards to know are the number card; cards 2 through 9 are their written value. The 10 card, Jacks, QUeens, and Kings are all worth 10 points. The ace, depending on the hand, can be either a 1 or an 11. After knowing this, a player needs to learn and develop a blackjack strategy.
